Degree Offered: B.S.

Major in Mechanical Engineering聽

Mechanical Engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines and is central to many new technological developments. Mechanical engineers analyze their work using the principles of motion, energy, and force, ensuring that designs function safely, efficiently, and reliably, all at a competitive cost. The goal of the program is to inspire innovation and foster hands-on education. Engagement in engineering practices and collaborative problem-solving begins early in the聽degree program, concurrent with foundational mathematics and science courses to build theoretical knowledge necessary for developing the advanced knowledge and creative mindset associated with professional practice. The plan of study begins with sequences in mathematics and natural sciences, then progresses to fundamental mechanical engineering courses that focus on the principles of mechanics, mass, momentum, and energy transfer, and how to apply these principles to solve聽practical engineering problems and design engineering solutions for a diverse range of case studies. Mechanical Engineering graduates will pursue a variety of career paths, taking on key roles in critical industries聽such as automotive, aerospace, renewable energy, robotics, and biomechanics, as well as engaging in innovative scientific research and development of initiatives for government agencies聽and the private sector.聽

Standards for Progress in the Major
